A Place
A place
between asleep and awake
a secret meeting
between midnight and dawn
beneath a moonless sky
of shadow velvet
the wheeling shadows
slowly mark the hours
and the earth turns
colours of water
and memories of moonlight
breezes tremble
a tree in the wind
dappled shadows
on fallen leaves
carpets of blossoms
clustered
in the growing dark
cascades in thunder
bright prints of raindrops
on flagstones
a rain that comes and goes
a ruined wall
the lace of leaves
a single cherry blossom falls
floats idly free
delicate
feather-light and fragile
a creaking floor
coloured silk
the reflection of someone
a burning ember falls
the candle fades
and I must leave
