Dreams Still Clinging

…like fire

Sleep eludes me, an endless need
I feel the inevitable fear
that curls under each desire
dreams still clinging like fire
I still feel the warmth of your arms
but you are lost to me

where are you my love?
my heart travels down winding roads
where is your beloved face?
the gentle winds whisper your name
and the mists of time envelop me
as emptiness fills me to overflowing

now the season is changing
so quickly it seems
the leaves are falling once more
such sweet memories
we shared in this beautiful place
your loss has left a void in me

are you searching too?
do you remember my love?
does your heart seek mine?
I am alone in the darkness
an endless melancholy
descends upon me

and the brittle autumn leaves
feel my pain and share my loss
for they too are lost to the shadows
and in their desolation
in their dying moments
they serenade me most mournfully
