I really enjoyed this story; it transports the reader into the time and the place and your language choices add a depth to the story. I love how you created a range of emotions that come through strongly, describing the brutality of battles yet in the end, making the poignancy of love loss a focus. Your imagery is beautifully crafted too! In particular the following two lines I found so descriptive, I could see and feel what you were painting:

‘Enwound by foes in black robes countless

Like an angel afloat in the world of ravens’
