My Words Burn

…within my fragile shell

Night’s silken cloak
always hides her light
her bright silvered ink
her soft symphonies
where fireflies waltz
in black velvet
burning for seconds
in eternity

just as my words burn
incandescent
within my fragile shell
the luminaries
of my eternal night
take flight
from my aching soul
painting my canvas
with their flames

through the darkest skies
they soar
upon the wings
of imagery
and metaphors
I watch them dance
in my mind’s eye
as I sit in perfect silence
absorbing their light

with trembling hands
I reach as if to catch them
but they slip away
each one a reflection
of the secrets
I hold deep inside
I apply ink to parchment
and slowly
the words start to flow
capturing fragments
and whispers of me
for all of eternity

as each line takes shape
pieces of my soul
are revealed
raw and unedited
in this sacred space
the ink stains my heart
and in every line
a little piece of me
can always be found
if anyone dares to care
