The Waves Rise

…and the waves fall

Wildflowers grow in a tangled mess
a riot of colour and fragrance
like poetry, they are wild and untamed
unbound by the rules of man

they gather together
in clandestine meetings
a secret sharing of beauty
hidden away from our gaze

but oh, how they dance in the wind
their petals ruffled at nature’s whim
swaying and bending with grace
never questioning their place

a single flower is beautiful
a field of flowers a dream
unseen roots intertwined
a community of beauty
nature’s masterpiece defined

the waves rise and the waves fall
restless as a winter storm
the constant yearning of the sea
the deep longing to be free
free of my melancholy
free of my grief

I ache to embrace the shore
the sand, the rocks, the cliffs
to consume it all
and to be consumed
and then the wind rises
and whispers softly to me
‘come with me….
to where time is meaningless’

under a soft moon
standing on the edge of the cliff
overlooking the restless sea
the wind whispers again to me
‘take my hand, love’
and suddenly it is you I see

I feel my heart race
as I reach for you
we wander down a winding path
through grass and wildflowers
in silence but for the rustling
of the leaves and our breathing

I suddenly awaken
the wind has ceased it’s whispering
and you are no longer here
‘was this just a dream?’
for in the moment it felt so real
and there is still a deep lingering ache
that feels like you calling me home
