Time Stands Still

…and I feel nothing at all

Time stands still
and the wind returns
with a touch of ice
and the dust
and the shadows
restlessly shift
and the fallen leaves
drift dry and lifeless
and I feel nothing at all

time stands still
and a deep blue
paints
the once pale sky
and a single
stationary cloud
fades from view
and a lonely bird
calls his sorrowful cry
and I feel nothing at all

time stands still
and soft rain whispers
and weeps
gently as it falls
and raindrops
are drip, drip, dripping
like tears
and forever
is only a moment
and I feel nothing at all

time stands still
and the wandering wind
grows bitterly cold
and I am chasing reflections
in the mirror
and falling
into the open arms
of empty space
and I feel nothing at all

time stands still
and darkness at last
gratefully and gracefully falls
and there are ashes
drifting upon the wind
and all that was
is changed
never again to be
and I feel nothing at all

time stands still
and winter
wraps around me
like a dark black cloak
and the long
desperate hours
are now upon me
and I am falling
into the elusive past
and losing myself
and I feel nothing at all

time stands still
and my soul in vain
is calling out your name
and I hear you
calling back to me
from within
and at last I whisper
my final goodbye
and I feel nothing at all

time stands still
and hear you
ask me to stay
and I reply
‘Say my name
just one more time’
and in the silence
and the echoes I fade away
and I feel nothing at all

time stands still
and my weary soul
now rests here
in sweet repose
and the nightingale
serenades
my peaceful dreams
and I feel you near
but still out of my reach
and I feel nothing at all
