I am left empty
An endless weariness
encircles my heart
and when the last candle fails
I am left empty
without a trace
Empty of even the ashes
of my memories
Without them
there is an even greater emptiness
to the empty sky
Empty
and comfortless now
empty of you
The dark of evening
will soon be here
Familiar things cast no shadows
yet still are seen to fall
and flow to the centre
Then float away
with the stream
Flowers
after their kind
flutter and scatter
like the feathers
of winter’s wing
I feel the coldness of its betrayal
and once again
I must enter the darkness
All alone
even to the end
